The MCR Athletics team, despite consisting of only six people, managed to come third in the Oxford Athletics Championships. Well done to Captain Fraser Thompson.

Of roughly fifty new graduate students that have been accepted to begin this October, twenty six different nations are represented. This places Pembroke's MCR once again as the most internationally representative common room in Oxford.

Congratulations to our latest distinction-winning Members. Distinctions are awarded by the university to those who performed outstandingly in their Masters degree. less than ten percent of any given year recieve distinctions which puts this years Pembroke contingent well above average. The latest four Pembroke recipients are

Plans have been drawn up for two new graduate accomodation buildings adjacent to the current Bannister Graduate Centre. Once implemented, this will more than double Pembroke graduate accomodation. Pembroke is one of very few colleges able to offer graduate accomodation directly adjacent to the historic site. Donations and ideas from old members and friends towards this potentially brilliant project are warmly welcomed.

MCR member Pierre Purseigle has just published his first book, 'Uncovered Fields: Perspectives in First World War Studies'. Edited with Jenny Macleod, Uncovered Fields presents original research on the military, social and cultural history of the First World War. Inspired by the reinvigoration of this subject area in the last decade, subjects included are race and gender relations, shellshock, civil-military relations, social mobilization and military discipline. It encompasses an unusually broad geographical range, including papers on Britain, France and Germany, but also Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria-Hungary and Latin America. Congratulations Pierre, and good luck with the next book in the series, which has already been commissioned!

Congratulations to MCR Secretary Carlos Meissner on being awarded the Pier Giorgio Frassati Travel Scholarship with which he intends to investigate corruption at the expense of sustainable development in Costa Rica.

18 MCR and SCR members raised over two hundred pounds for Muscular Dystrophy research in the Oxford Town and Gown 10km race today. The race was followed by a BBQ in the Bannister Building garden where the target was set for 30 competitors next year.
