YEARS AT PEMBROKE One
STRENGTH ON THE COMMITTEE I’ve been on several student committees before and I understand how to strike the right balance between managing certain aspects of the MCR and meeting the demands of the students within the community. I also love bringing people together to create a group of people who are supportive of each other’s passions and interests (both academic and non-academic) and want to share them. Holding the position of Social Secretary last year has given me the opportunity to see which events work and has helped the committee and I to plan a great year of events for the MCR.
WHY PEMBROKE? Having studied at a small college in Durham I knew that I wanted the cozy and social atmosphere that only a small college can offer. Pembroke offers a close community where anyone can feel at home and everyone has the chance to participate and contribute.
FAVOURITE OXFORD MOMENT SO FAR? The whole of Freshers’ week is an amazing experience and a wonderful chance to meet new friends. Nothing can replace the magic of experiencing all Oxford has to offer for the first time.
NUMBER ONE TIP FOR FRESHERS Don’t be scared to get involved! Come to Freshers’ week and to the MCR as much as possible. It’s the best place to make new friends and to start experiencing Oxford life. You will find that the friends you make in the MCR will become like a family and will provide welcome support when needed. There will also be many MCR events throughout term which are a great break from the academic side of University life. Don’t forget to ask your Committee if you have any questions – that’s what we’re here for!
